Properly applied DTF transfers are durable and stretchy, surviving many wash cycles without cracking or fading. Good garment care is what keeps them looking new — here’s how to treat them.
Before the first wash
Let a freshly pressed garment rest for at least 24 hours before washing so the adhesive fully cures and bonds to the fabric.
Washing
- Turn the garment inside out to protect the print.
- Wash in cold water on a gentle or normal cycle.
- Use a mild detergent — no bleach or harsh additives.
- Avoid fabric softeners, which can break down the print over time.
Drying
- Hang-dry or tumble dry on low heat.
- High heat is the enemy of any heat transfer — skip the hot dryer.
Ironing
- Never iron directly on the design.
- If you must press, flip the garment inside out or place a cloth/cover sheet over the print.

How long do DTF transfers last?
